PURPOSE: To carry out the continuous annealing of a dead soft steel strip without causing heat buckle even at a high temp. by specifying the tension of the strip during passing through a continuous annealing furnace in accordance with the width and thickness of the strip.
CONSTITUTION: The tension of a steel strip during transfer in a continuous annealing furnace having heating and soaking zones is regulated to a value below the tension value calculated by an equation: T<-0.064X+1.85 [where T is the unit tension value (kg/mm2) of the strip, X=l2/t×10-4, (l) is the length (mm) of tapered parts of a roll contacting with the strip, and t is the thickness (mm) of the strip]. The tapered parts are those 3 of a roll 1 as a transfer roll for continuously passing the strip through the furnace.
