PURPOSE: The titled composition that contains a homopolymer or copolymer from a specific styrene substituted with metal carboxylates or the like, thus being suitable for used in optical elements such as lenses, because of its high refractive index and high heat resistance.
CONSTITUTION: In the homopolymer or copolymer of (A) a styrene substituted with more than 0.02 of carboxyls, sulfonic or phosphoric acid groups per a benzene ring or (B) (i) 5W90pts.wt. of substituted styrene having carboxyl, sufonic or phosphoric groups and (ii) 10W95pts.wt. of a monomer containing one or more unsaturated groups such as butadiene, more than 95% of the polymer or copolymer are substituted with metal such as Pb at the acid parts in the polymer A or B. The resultant composition is molded to give optical elements.
