PURPOSE: To obtain the titled elastomer having specific physical properties and high strength, by copolymerizing ethylene with an α-olefin using a catalyst composed of an organoaluminum compound and a product obtained by the treatment of a specific cyclic compound and a solid component containing Mg, halogen and a transition metal.
CONSTITUTION: The objective elastomer composed of a copolymer having an ethylene content of 40W90wt%, the crystallinity of ethylene of 1W20%, and an intrinsic viscosity of 1.0W2.0dl/g measured in decaline at 135°C,is obtained by copolymerizing at least ethylene and a 2W12C α-olefin in the presence of a catalyst system derived from (A) a solid catalyst component obtained by the treatment of (i) a solid component containing magnesium atom, halogen atom, and a transition metal element and (ii) a 4W8-membered organic compound containing oxygen atom and/or nitrogen atom in the ring, and (B) an organoaluminum compound.
