PURPOSE: To facilitate assembling and adjustment, by forming a light path by optical fiber and a solid state optical waveguide, and integrating an optical modulator on a substrate, which forms the solid state optical waveguide.
CONSTITUTION: When application into e.g., a ring interferometer, is performed in detecting angular speed and the like, a solid optical waveguide 30 and a surface acoustic wave element 5 are formed on the surface of a solid optical waveguide substrate 3 comprising ferroelectric body. The waveguide 30 is constituted of an optical multiplexing part 30d and optical demultiplexing parts 30aW30c. Surface acoustic waves are propagated on the surface, on which the waveguide 30 is formed. A light optical modulator utilizing Bragg diffraction is constituted of the element 5. Light from laser 1 is inputted to the waveguide 30 through an isolator 2. A signal from a photodetector 6, which is attached to a hole 6a of the plate 3, is supplied to a phase modulation control circuit 8 through a buffer amplifier 7. The phase of a driving signal of the element 5 is controlled. Both end surfaces of a loop shaped optical fiber ring 4 are butted to the end part of the waveguide 30 and contacted.
