PURPOSE: To shorten a restarting process by every on-line system or batch job by opening an information saving file on the basis of catalogue information and volume information.
CONSTITUTION: Open information is stored in an open information saving file 80 after a blocking process so as to reduce the number of I/O operations required for making system starting/restarting processes. While a system is in an on-line state, in addition, the number of I/O operations to catalogue information 50 and volume information 60 and 61 required at file opening time can be reduced at the time of performing the next system starting/restarting process even when closing or opening of files 30-33 is generated by always checking the open information already saved to the file 80 and new open information and saving the open information to be used to the file 80. Therefore, the file opening time is reduced during the system starting/restarting process.
