PURPOSE: To provide apparatus having a simple structure and performing certain opeation, constituted so as to drive a drive lever for moving a printing head to approaching and separating directions with respect to a platen through a specific acting member by a latching solenoid.

CONSTITUTION: A current is flowed to a latching solenoid 22 and a pluner 23 is retractively moved to revolve a revolving lever 11 while a drive lever 7 is revolved through a link member 16 by the action of a pull spring 19. A printing head 6 is contacted with a platen 2 and a gap is formed between the righthand end of a slot 17 and a stepped pin 18. When a restoring current is flowed to the latching solenoid 22, the plunger 23 is protruded while the link member 16 moves to left to bring the righthand end of the slot 17 into engagement with the stepped pin 18 and both levers 7, 11 are revolved to allow the printing head to be spaced apart from the platen.
