PURPOSE: To prepare the titled substance in high yield, either by adding (A) a hydrogen halide slowly to a mixture of (B) 2-alkylidenecyclopentanone and (C) an alcoholic solvent, or by adding the components (A) and (B) slowly to the component (C).
CONSTITUTION: The isomerization of 2-alkylidenecyclopentanone to the titled substance can be carried out either by adding (A) hydrogen halide slowly to a mixture of (B) 2-alkylidenecyclopentanone and (C) an alcoholic solvent heated at 80W120°C, or by adding the component (A) and (B) slowly to the component (C) heated at the above temperature, and reacting the components with each other. The amount of the components (A) and (C) are 2W10mol% and 2W10 times weight based on the component (B), respectively, and the time for addition is preferably 0.5W2hr.
