PURPOSE: To prevent the relative change in the ratio of the gap between a character and a line, by changing the cumalative value of minute feed in a line direction so as to obtain a line feed amount proportional to a column feed amount when the character size of a type unit is changed.

CONSTITUTION: Data showing the value of a line feed amount (length), which is obtained from a line feed number indicating signal (1, 1.5, 2 line) and a column feed amount indicating signal (1/10, 1/12, 1/15 inch) inputted to a control circuit 3 from a function keyboard part 2, is stored in memory 4 or outputted to the control circuit 3 from the memory 4. For example, when 1/12 of one line feed amount, when a column pitch is 1/10, is set to the min. unit (f) of a minute feed amount in a line direction, the line feed amount necessary for one line is 12f. When the column pitch is changed to 1/2 inch and 1/15 inch, respective line feed amounts are 10f and 8f and become small in proportion to the change of the column pitch.
