PURPOSE: To prevent areas other than a recording area on a recording medium from unnecessary magnetic influence at the recording time by connecting a magneto-resistance effect element magnetically with a main magnetic pole on a recording main magnetic pole exciting type head part through a magnetic substance on a nonmagnetic substrate.
CONSTITUTION: The magneto-resistance effect element (MR element) 33 is formed on the nonmagnetic substrate 31 to be used also as a slider through the 1st insulating layer 32 and a magnetic layer 35 consisting of "Permalloy" or the like and having high permeability is arranged so that a part is overlapped to the back end part of the MR element 33 through the 2nd insulating layer 34 and the other is allowed to contact with the surface of the nonmagnetic substrate 31. When magnetic recording is to be executed on a vertical magnetic recording medium 43 by the thin film composite head constituted by said procedure, only the main magnetic layer 37 is magnetized by a spiral coil conductor layer 39 into which prescribed current is made to flow and a magnetic field is generated, so that the areas other than the recording area on the medium 43 are prevented prevented from unnecessary magnetic influence at the recording time, and at the reproducing time, a feedback magnetic circuit for reproducing magnetic flux is formed by the magnetic layer 35 and the main magnetic layer 37 to obtain high reproducing efficiency.
