PURPOSE: To improve the repeating characteristics of recording and erasing by forming a recording layer formed by mixing germanium nitride with Ge, Te and Sb on a substrate and suppressing the phenomenon that the material of the recording layer moves along guide grooves.
CONSTITUTION: The state is changed by irradiation with a laser beam, etc. The recording layer 3 consisting of the material formed by incorporating the germanium nitride into the Ge, Te and Sb or incorporating the germanium nitride into the GeTe, Sb2Te3 and Sb is formed on a substrate 1. A target for sputtering formed by incorporating the germanium nitride into the Ge, Te and Sb or incorporating the germanium nitride into the GeTe, Sb2Te3 and Sb is used in order to form the recording layer 3. The phenomenon that the material of the recording layer 3 moves along the guide grooves by the repetition of heating and cooling arising from the repetition of recording, reproducing and erasing is suppressed. The repetitive characteristics of recording and erasing are improved in this way.
