Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a subject new polymer exhibiting high breaking energy in a tensile stress-strain test and having excellent moldability and strength by introducing two specific kinds of constituent units into a styrene polymer. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer is composed of constituent units of formulas I to III (R<1> is group of formula IV or V; R<2> is CH2CH2, CidenticalC, etc.; R<3> is H or methyl; R<4> is H or 1-5C alkyl), contains 0.006-0.000006 each of unit I and II per one unit III and has a weight-average molecular weight of 200,000-600,000. The polymer can be produced e.g. by polymerizing a styrene monomer in the presence of an organic peroxide having >=3 units of formula VI, thereby introducing the groups of formulae I and II into the styrene polymer.
