PURPOSE: To determine the coordinate matched amount for the matching of both coordinate systems at high speed and with high accuracy, by forming a special differential plane weight map and performing the weight search of the position concentrated with the weight on the map, when the coordinate systems of two patterns are not matched.
CONSTITUTION: A coordinate matched amount determination device has a characteristic point memory 1, a pair list memory 2, a coordinate transformation circuit 3, a control storage 4, a control section 5, an operating circuit 6, and a coordinate matching circuit 7. Coordinates of each characteristic point of two patterns to be collated from the characteristic point memory 1 are given to the control section 5 and a pair candidate list including the weight of the pair candidata based on the local approximation of each characteristic point is given from the pair list memory 2. If both coordinate systems are not securely matched, a special difference plane weighted map is formed and the weight concentrated position is searched for the weight on the map.
