PURPOSE: To make a stable band welding possible by a method wherein a band leading end is made to exist between the lower surface of the leading end part of a slide table and the upper surface of a band guide, to grip the band leading end.

CONSTITUTION: A band is wound around an object to be packed, and the band leading end is made to reach the stopper of a band guide 28 under a slide table 31. Then, when a press cam shaft 12 and a frame cam shaft 14 are rotated, a cam 49 presses a crank lever 46a through a cam follower which is pivotally attached to the leading end of the crank lever 46b, by the rotation of the frame cam shaft 14, and turns the crank lever 46a counterclockwise, and moves a rod 45 which is turnably connected with the leading end of the crank lever 46a, downward. The rod 45 depresses the leading end of a lever 44, and the lever 44 turns a shaft 43 counterclockwise, and turns a protruding part 42 of a band gripping tool 41, which is fixed on the shaft 43, to an engaging part, i.e., to the direction of a groove part 36, on the lower surface of the slide table 31, and the feeding end side of the tightened band is grip-fixed between the protruding part 42 and the groove part 36.
