PURPOSE: To perform reproduction without deteriorating frequency characteristics of a sound signal due to the delay in a tape running speed for long-term video recording, by recording a carrier of an audio signal with heads having different azimuth angles.

CONSTITUTION: Supposing that a rotary cylinder 1 is rotated in the direction of the arrow B, a magnetic tape 3 running in the arrow A records a video signal by video heads 2a, 2b fitted to the rotary cylinder 1 and the signal is reproduced. In case of long-term recording, the video signal is recorded on a track 4 of the magnetic tape 3. On the other hand, the height of mounting is adjusted for audio heads 5a, 5b so that they are in contact with the track 6. The video signal is recorded further by the video head 2a after the carrier of the audio signal is recorded by the head 5a, the rotary cylinder 1 records the carrier of the audio signal by the other head 5b and the video signal is recorded thereon further by the video head 2b.
