PURPOSE: To prepare an aldehyde or ketone compound, selectively, in high yield, by decomposing a hydroperoxide compound in the presence of a basic compound and a carbonyl compound having an electron attractive group adjacent to the carbonyl group.
CONSTITUTION: An aldehyde or ketone compound (e.g. 2-cyclohexanene) can be prepared selectively, by decomposing a hydroperoxide compound (e.g. 2-cyclohexenyl hydroperoxide) at 20W120°C in the presence of a carbonyl compound and a basic compound. The carbonyl compound is one having an electron attractive group adjacent to the carbonyl group, e.g. hexafluoroacetone, hexachloroacetone, etc., and its amount is 1.0W0.01mol per 1mol of the raw material. The base is e.g. pyridine, sodium acetate, etc., and its amount is 100W0.01mol per 1mol of the raw material.
