PURPOSE: To work a character at a high speed by setting a coefficient data for working to be given to an operation processor to make various character working processing possible and also making data processing possible at a high speed in watching the processing result by a monitor display.

CONSTITUTION: A character data read from an original F is read by a read buffer 8, sent to an operation processor 7, receives prescribed processing by the data of each picture element, and thereafter, sent successively to a write buffer 9, and stored again in a magnetic disk memory 6. Subsequently, the data of each picture element is read out successively from the read buffer 8, sent to the operation processor 7, sent to a delaying circuit 12 first, and the data is outputted to each stage in accordance with a delay. Next, in a multiplier 13, each delay element is multiplied by a filter coefficient determined by a control device 5, and thereafter, those results are added in an adder 14, and sent to the write buffer 9. The result processed in this way is stored in the magnetic disk memory 6 again, and the processing result is sent to a picture memory 10 and is displayed by a monitor 11. Accordingly, the processing result can be evaluated easily by observing the monitor 11, selecting suitably the filter coefficient fed to the multiplier 13 from the control device 5.
