PURPOSE: To obtain block propylene copolymer of a uniform composition, by polymerizing the terminal carbo cations of a polypropylene formed with the aid of a specified compound with tetrahydrofuran.
CONSTITUTION: Propylene is living-polymerized in the presence of β-diketone vanadium chelate and an aluminum compound of the formula: R2AlX (wherein R is a 1W8C alkyl, or aryl, and X is a halogen atom) to form a living polypropylene. This polymer is contacted with a halogen, and the produced halogenated polypropylene of formula I (wherein x≥2) is reacted with a terminal modifying agent. The terminal carbo cations of the formed polypropylene is polymerized with tetrahydrofuran to obtain a block propylene copolymer having bonds between the repeating units of formula II and those of formula III (wherein y≥2).
