Abstract:
PURPOSE:To specify a trouble position and to effectively decide maintenance by dividing a test program to respective function circuit blocks constituting a magnetic tape controller and a magnetic tape device and executing the test program in a preliminarily determined order for respective function circuit blocks. CONSTITUTION:The circuit constituting an external storage device 2 is divided to plural circuit blocks 3 to 5 by respective functions, and these circuit blocks are connected through a bus 6, and a microprocessor unit 8 to which a memory 7 where plural test programs corresponding to respective circuit blocks are stored is connected is connected to each circuit block. Execution of test programs is instructed to the microprocessor unit 8, and a tester 9 on which the test results are displayed can be connected. Thus, an external storage device is diagnosed by the test signal from the memory which is provided in this device itself and where test programs are stored.
