PURPOSE: To reproduce sound and picture of high quality, by splitting a time series synthesis signal arranged in matrix into a luminance signal and two color difference signals at each prescribed number of adjacent rows and columns and providing a header signal for the head of each split signal.
CONSTITUTION: A matrix circuit 3 receives an output of a video signal source 1, and splits a digital luminance signal Y and color difference signals B-Y and R-Y at each prescribed adjacent number of rows and columns. The split signals Y, B-Y and R-Y are AD-converted 4∼6 and inputted to a switching circuit 15 under the control of a clock signal or a memory write controller via memories 9∼10. A header signal having picture type codes is given from a header signal generator 17 to the head of each signal and the result is given to the circuit 15. When the code of the header signal is coincident with the code of a signal setting a specific type of picture from an external input terminal 16, the circuit 15 transmits the synchronized luminance and color difference signals to an encoder.
