PURPOSE: To stop automatically an edge position control device (EPC) by a level of a deviation signal between both outputs, by providing the first and the second edge detectors for detecting a shaft of a position of the edge of a body to be inspected which is running along a rolling line, by separating them by a prescribed distance.
CONSTITUTION: A body to be inspected S (steel plate) is fed in the direction (a) on a line. When an edge cut part KS of the steel plate passes through the first edge detector 10, a detecting signal is generated and an output of a differential amplifier 12 becomes a1. A comparator 14 applies an H level signal to a bistable multivibrator 15, and a signal (c) is applied to an AND circuit 20. In the same way, an output a2 is generated from the second edge detector 11, and a signal (e) is applied to the AND circuit 20. Subsequently, an AND output E becomes an edge cut detecting signal, and the EPC stops automatically a detection of a snake motion of its edge. The bistable multivibrators 15, 18 are reset by times 16, 19. According it is prevented that the steel plate is detected as if it executed a snake motion.
