Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:A compound of the formula (R1 is 1W10C alkyl; R2 is 1W10C straight chain alkyl).
EXAMPLE: trans-4-(trans-4'-Pentylcyclohexyl)cyclohexanecarboxylic acid ester of 3-butyloxy-6-hydroxy-phthalonitrile.
USE: A liquid crystal composition which is a colorless substance having a remarkably high negative dielectric anisotropy value without absorbing light at ≥350nm wavelength.
PROCESS: A 3-alkyloxy-6-hydroxy-phthalonitrile is dissolved in a basic solvent, e.g. pyridine, and a solution containing a trans-4-(trans-4'-alkylcyclohexyl)cyclohexanecarboxylic acid halide dissolved in an inert solvent, e.g. toluene, is added to the resultant solution and reacted therewith to give the aimed compound of the formula.
