PURPOSE: To obtain coarse tungsten powder for electrical contact materials, etc. easily at a relatively low temp. by adding a specific content of a lithium compd. to tungsten oxide then reducing the same.

CONSTITUTION: A lithium compd. as Li2O is added to tungsten oxide (WO3) by the content which is ≥5×10-4mol basing on 100g WO3 and at which substantially no adverse influence is given to the fonal product. The mixture is subjected to prescribed reduction at a relatively low temp. below about 1,000°C. By such method, the tungsten powder of coarse single particles having about 40μm average particle sizes is easily obtained.
