PURPOSE: To shorten the settling time for the titled device, by attaching weights, whose position is changed by the deformation of a shape memory alloy, on a vertical shaft of a rotor shaft, thereby increasing precession torque of a gyrocompass.
CONSTITUTION: A wheel 1 is pivoted on an appropriate position of ginbals 7 and rotated at a high speed. A device is provided with a central shaft 2, and weights 3 and 4 are provided on the vertical shaft. The weight 4 is compressed by a compressing spring 5 from one side and compressed by a shape memory alloy 6 from the other side. In this device, the shape memory alloy 6 is heated by the current conduction and the like when a gyrocompass is started and the weight 4 is moved in the direction aiding the operation of the weight 3. Thus the precession torque of the gyroscope is increased. In this way, the settling time can be shortened.
