Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain extremely thin yarn having low single filament fineness of wound yarn stably, free from end breakage, by spinning a polyester prepared by using only a sulfur acid compound as a catalyst at high velocity.

CONSTITUTION: For example, slurry of terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol is polycondensed in the presence of a sulfur acid compound (e.g., 5-sulfoisophthalic acid, etc.) as a catalyst. The prepared polyester is spun at high velocity at ≥2,500m/min, preferably at ≥4,500m/min, to give extremely thin yarn having ≤5 denier, preferably ≤1 denier single filament fineness of wound yarn.
