PURPOSE: To prevent the deterioration in a picture signal after restart of read by restarting picture reading after shading correction is executed after disabled reception is restored.

CONSTITUTION: When disabled reception of picture information is caused, since a signal representing it is transmitted from an external device 40 to a control section 15, the section 15 restores a reading optical system 12 to the initial position and interrupts the transmission of a picture signal from a processing section 14. When the disabled reception state is restored, after the control section 15 gives a signal representing the retransmission of picture information of the same original to the external device 40, a correction coefficient for shading correction is obtained newly, the reading as to the same original is started again and after the shading correction and the required processing are applied to the read picture signal by the processing section 14, the result is transmitted to the external device 40. Thus, no missing of picture information due to interruption is caused and no deterioration of the picture signal after restart of reading is caused.
