PURPOSE: To improve the assembly efficiency of a sealed battery by placing a positive mixture in a battery case, the side wall of which has an area located near the bottom and tapered toward the bottom, and then forming an ares near the opening into a shape expanded toward the opening before installing a negative mixture and similar members over the positive mixture.
CONSTITUTION: The side wall of a battery case 23 consists of an area 23a which is located near the bottom of the battery case 23 and tapered toward its bottom, and a cylindrical area 23b located near the opening of the case 23. Next, after a positive mixture 24 and a positive ring 25 are placed in the case 23, the tapered area 23a is drown inward to bring it into contact with the positive mixture 24 and the positive ring 25. And, the other area of the side wall is formed into a cylindrical area 23c located near the bottom and an area 23d located near the opening and expanded toward the opening. Next, after a separator 18, an electrolyte-holding member 19 and a sealing plate 21 packed with a negative mixture 20 are placed over the positive ring 25, the opening of the case 23 is sealed by caulking with a gasket 22 interposed. By the means mentioned above, generation elements such as the positive mixture 24 and the negative mixture 20 can be very smoothly installed in the case 23. Accordingly, it is possible to stabilize the liquid leakage resistance and the internal resistance of the sealed battery.
