PURPOSE: To enable a cutting tool to be directed toward an optional direction in relation to the article to be machined by keeping the second spindle rotating and fixing the article to be machined by means of XY table mechanism, while causing the first spindle to be capable of pivoting in the holizontal direction.
CONSTITUTION: By a pivoting mechanism 7, a spindle 16 is rotated in the holizontal direction, and an inclined angle θ is set up by an angle indicater 7. A table 15 is displaced, and the position-shift(s) of a bite tip is set up. Then, the position of the table 15 is determined by a position-indicater 15a. The spherical surface with an optional curvature-radius is made by setting up the position shift(s). The article 11 to be machined is rotated in low speed by a spindle 13, and when said article 11 is advanced by a table 16, the article 11 is machined into the shape of a spherical surface by a cutting tool 4.
