EXAMPLE: N-(2,3,4-Trichloro-α'-methylbenzyl)-α-bromo-tert-butylacetamide.
USE: An agricultural and horticultural fungicide. It exhibits excellent activity especially to rice blast, and has low toxicity, rapid activity and long-acting residual activity.
PROCESS: The compound of formulaIcan be prepared by reacting the haloacetic acid derivative of formula II or its reactive derivative with the methylbenzylamine derivative of formula III in a solvent such as benzene, tetrahydrofuran, acetone, etc. at a temperature between 0°C and the boiling point of the solvent, if necessary, under heating or cooling. The compound of formula II or its reactive derivative may be the corresponding carboxylic acid, acid anhydride, acid chloride, acid bromide, carboxylic acid ester, etc.
