PURPOSE: To prevent the falling of steel pipes under its weight by a method in which a grasper to chuck sheet piles, a pressing and drawing jack to vertically move the grasper, and an axially horizontal roller pressingly contacting with the outside of the sheet pile are provided, and the roller is turned as needed.

CONSTITUTION: When drawing a steel pipe 4 from the ground, a grasper 2 is brought down by a pressing and drawing jack 3, an oil-pressure cylinder 17 is contracted, the steel pipe 4 is grasped, a roller 6 is pressingly contacted with the outside of the steel pipe 4, the jack 3 is extended to upwardly move the grasper 2, and the steel pipe 4 is drawn out to full stroke of the jack 3. During the period, the roller 6 is rotationally moved in relation to the upward moving of the steel pipe 4. Then, the grasper 2 is loosened and brought down by the jack 3, but even when the steel pipe 4 is ready to go down under its own weight, the steel pipe 4 does not fall because the direction of that movement becomes the one to which the roller 6 being in pressure-contact with the surface of the steel pipe 4 can not rotate.
