Abstract:

PURPOSE: To make coding at high efficiency and at low bit rate by making vector quantizing while renewing a code table by a dynamic type front stage vector quantizer to remove redundant components, and making means value separation and amplitude normalizing vector quantizing the residual signal by a fixed type rear stage vector quantizer.

CONSTITUTION: The dynamic type front stage vector quantizer 15 forms dynamic output vector basing on a block scan picture input signal 103 and a regenerative signal 118 of one frame before, and forms an estimated picture signal 113 corresponding to the position of block on the picture of the signal 103 through vector quantizing, and sends out a front stage output vector index 112 to a variable length encoder 9. The plural number of interframe differential picture signals 114 are made to a block and put together. The fixed type rear stage vector quantizer 16 outputs fixed differential output vector as interframe differential vector quantizing picture signal 116 to an adder 8 together with mean value information and amplitude information, and sends out above-mentioned information to the variable length encoder 9 together with differential output vector index 115. The adder 8 forms a regenerative picture signal 117 from the signals 113 and 116.
