PURPOSE: To subject a billet or the like to gas cutting with fully automated and unmanned operation and to improve the efficiency of cutting, by providing a moving device for the billet, etc. in the position where a welding machine for welding small billets and an automatic gas cutter are provided.
CONSTITUTION: A billet, bloom, slab or the like is fed with rolls 8 in such a way that the position 3 for starting cutting the same comes to the position of an electrode holder 9 of a welding machine. When a small billet 2 is welded to the position 3, the position welded with the billet 2 is moved by the rolls 8 to the positions 2' and 3' where the nozzle of an automatic gas cutter are provided. The nozzle is ignited there, and is fed on a rail 12 by the automatic feed of an automatic gas cutter 11, whereby the cutting is started. The nozzle is extinguished upon completion of the cutting, and the cutter 11 is returned together with the nozzle again to the home position along the rail 12.
