PURPOSE: To obtain the controller with high function efficiency by providing a key repeat extending processing part for extending a unit for a prescribed time based upon count information, and a key repeat shortening processing part for shortening the unit for a prescribed time.

CONSTITUTION: The keyboard controller 1 is provided with the key repeat required time extending processing part 9 and the key repeat required time shortening processing part 8. In the controller 1, a data processing control part 10 processes respective count information obtained from a key repeat counter part 5 and a back space counter part 6 and properly control the operation of the processing parts 9, 8. Thereby, a key repeat required time previously set up in the control part 10 can be extended or shortened. Consequently, the controller 1 having excellent operation capacity can be obtained.
