PURPOSE: To obtain an inexpensive and thin-type input device and to improve its accuracy by forming position indicators for vertical and horizontal coordinates and detecting and indicating the coordinate position directly as a digital value.

CONSTITUTION: The coordinate input device is formed by fitting a vertical coordinate position indicator 2a and a horizontal coordinate position indicator 3a to a coordinate position input unit 1a and provided with a vertical coordinate position detector 4a and a horizontal coordinate position detector 5a. In addition, a spring 10 for fixing the input unit 1a is connected. The input unit 1a can be moved simultaneously in the vertical and horizontal directions in a range where respective indicators 2a, 3a can be contacted with respective detectors 4a, 5a without fail. When a cursor on a display device is to be moved to an objective position, the input device 1a is moved in the direction to an objective position to move the vertical and horizontal coordinate position indicators 2a, 3a. The movement is detected by the number of discrimination lines of respective detectors 4a, 5a and outputted directly as a digital value.
