Title:
CULTURE OF YEAST HAVING CAROTENOID BIOSYNTHESIS CAPABILITY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS60110285
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To product carotenoid useful as an additive for food and feed, in high yield, by culturing a yeast strain capable of producing carotenoid by biosynthesis in a nutrient medium under the radiation of light containing ultraviolet ray having a specific wavelength, and collecting a yeast strain having increased carotenoid productivity from the cultured product.

CONSTITUTION: A carotenoid-producing yeast strain (e.g. Rhodosporidium toruloides IFO 0559, etc.) is cultured in a nutrient medium under the radiation of light containing at least the ultraviolet ray having the wavelength of 280W 400nm. A yeast strain having increased carotenoid-productivity is collected from the cultured product, and cultured to obtain carotenoid in high yield. Preferably, the irradiation with the ultraviolet ray is initiated at an arbitrary stage of the logarithmic growth stage, and the intensity is 1W100,000μW/cm2 at the surface of the medium.
