PURPOSE: To separate easily and surely a transfer medium from a photosensitive drum by giving a temporary deformation set to the front end of the transfer medium with small force.

CONSTITUTION: The front end 4a of a conveyed transfer medium 4 is grasped with pressure by a press curving plate 14 and a receiving plate 6. The plate 6 is kept heated by a heater 10 in this stage and the end 4a is curved without having a folding seam. The transfer medium is thereafter passed through a conveyor 41 and a guide 42 and is conveyed to the space between a transfer charger 3 and a phtotosensitive drum 2 so that the visible toner image on the drum 2 is transferred. There is a need for separating the front end of the medium 4 in tight contact with the drum 2 by static electricity from the drum 2. Since the end 4a is afloat from the surface of the drum 2, a suction roller 43 attracts easily the end 4a. the roller 43 revolves in an arrow direction and therefore the remaining part of the medium 4 separates successively from the drum 2.
