Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:δ-Cyclopentyl-δ-lactone of formula.
USE: A perfumery composition. It has unique sweet and fragrant scent of fruit or coumarin note and excellent lasting property, and is useful as an agent for imparting or modifying the scent of perfume. It is used as an additive of cosmetics, soaps, detergents, room perfumes, foods, drinks, drugs, gum, toothpaste, etc. The amount to be compounded is 1W20wt% for perfume and 0.1W20wt% for flavor.
PROCESS: The compound of formula is prepared by the conventional Baeyer- Villiger reaction, i.e. the oxidation of 2-cyclopentylcyclopentanone which is easily available in the market with a peroxide (e.g. peracid, hydroperoxide, Caro's acid, etc.).
