Title:
LIQUID CRYSTAL ORNAMENTAL BODY HAVING CURVED SURFACE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6069629
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a liquid crystal body having an excellent ornamental effect by forming successively a liquid crystal film and a resin layer each having a uniform thickness on a flat flexible base plate then deforming thermally the laminate thereof in a way as to have a curved surface and cooling the heated laminate so that elastic recovering force against load deformation at an ordinary temp. is provided to the laminate.

CONSTITUTION: An aq. colloidal soln. prepd. by microcapsulating a liquid crystal material of cholesterol of which the color tone can be changed by a temp. change with gelatin or the like is coated with gum arabic as a binder on a flat and flexible base plate 2 consisting of, for example, an acrylic resin plate or thin metallic sheet or the like which softens at 60°C. The coating is then dried to form a liquid crystal film 3. A resin film 4 is then formed on the film 3 by a casting method of one-pack or twin-pack liquid resin such as an epoxy resin, polyester resin or the like. The laminate thereof is vacuum drawn or is wound and fixed to a cylindrical body, etc. having a curved surface and is then formed by heating so as to have a curved surface 1; thereafter the curved laminate is gradually cooled to a room temp. and is then cooled about 0°C in a refrigerator to manufacture the liquid crystal ornamental body having elastic recovering force against load deformation at ≤40°C temp. The beautiful ornamental body of which the color tone changes with a change in ambient temp. is thus obtd.
