PURPOSE: To provide a rolling mill which is made low in height and compact and is designed to permit easy roll changing by disposing freely slidably upper and lower chocks between respectively a pair of housing posts facing to each other and detaining the upper chocks with turnable detaining pieces.

CONSTITUTION: Upper and lower chocks 16, 18 which support upper and lower rolls 15, 17 for rolling a rolled material to be passed therethrough from an arrow 20 direction are freely slidably disposed between respectively a pair of U- shaped housing posts 21, 22 of a housing 19 facing to each other. A roll balancer 27 is interposed between both chocks 16 and 18. The lower chock 18 is supported with a screw-up device 24 and the upper chock 16 is detained by turnable detaining pieces 30, 31 which are pinned 28, 29 to the upper end parts of the posts 21, 22. The housing 19 is opened in the upper part to reduce stress passes and the weight. The rolls 15, 17 are easily exchangeable from the upper part when said pieces 30W31 are released.
