PURPOSE: To obtain a reduced modifed compound of glycryrrhizic acid useful as an antiallergic by one process, by using easily obtainable 18β H-glycyrrhizic acid as a starting raw material, reducing it, acidifying directly the reaction solution with hydrochloric acid.
CONSTITUTION: An antiallergic comprising a reduced modified compound of clycyrrhizic acid, namely, olean-9(11),12-diene-3β,30-diol or olean-11,13(18)-diene- 3β,30-diol as an active ingredient. This reduced modified compound of glycyrrhizic acid is obtained by reducing glycyrrhizic acid (3β-hydroxy-11-oxoolean-12-en-30 oleic acid) with bis(2-methoxy)sodium aluminum hydride in an inert solvent such as tetrahydrofuran, acidifying directly the reaction solution to from the above- mentioned two compounds simultaneously, followed by separation and purification.
