PURPOSE: To prevent generation of high selvage at both ends of width, by both changing both end parts of the traverse width within a setting creeping quantity and a creeping speed in accordance with the lapse of time within a creeping time in which the width decreases.
CONSTITUTION: If a cam 1 is rotatively driven by a stepping motor 17, a rod 7 is caused to perform shuttle motion through an L-shaped arm 4, and a traverse device is driven to change traverse width. An arithmetic unit CPU is input with setting time, creeping time, creeping quantity and each section, to arithmetically obtain width of a pulse, output at each section of the creeping time, drive the stepping motor 17 at a prescribed rotary angle through a pulse generator 22, rotate the cam 1 corresponding to plural packages and change the traverse width. Further a rotary speed of the cam 1 is also controlled to adjust a traverse speed in a accordance with a change of the traverse width and almost equalize tension. In this way, generation of high selvage at both ends of the traverse width is prevented.
