PURPOSE: To obtain a function separation type electrophotographic receptor capable of forming high image quality and having superior durability, by forming an undercoat made of a blend of polyvinyl butyral and phenolic resins between a substrate and a photoconductive layer.
CONSTITUTION: A 10μm thick undercoat is formed by coating a specularly- unfinished aluminum cylinder by a dipping method with a coating soln. contg. a main component of a phenolic resin and a small amt. of butyral resin, and regulated in viscosity with isopropanol, and heat hardening the coated cylinder at 120°C for 5min. This undercoat is further coated with a MEK/cyclohexanone soln. of cellulose acetobutyrate contg. a bisazo pigment dispersed to form a charge generating layer. A charge transfer layer is formed by further coating the charge generating layer with a monochlorobenzene soln. of a pyrazoline compd. and drying it in a hot air flow. The photoreceptor thus prepd. is covered sufficiently on the roughness and stains of the surface of the substrate, and it has no image defect, and superior durability, because the undercoat has low resistance and solvent resistance.
