Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a bipolar electrolytic cell which permits electrolysis on low voltage by repeating a unit wherein a gasket contg. porous anode, a fluorine- contg. cation exchange membrane, a gasket contg. porous cathode and a partition wall are laminated successively. CONSTITUTION:An electrode is preferably a porous body of shape permitting the permeation of gases, for example, a lath material, a net of spaghetti or the like which has the surface area as large as possible, and has the shape and properties by which the flow lines of solns. are disturbed and the gases generated in the electrode are desorbed quickly. The anode material is known materials such as C, ferrite and the like. An activated cathode which decreases cathode overvoltage such as mild iron, Ni and the like can be used for the cathode. A gasket 1 contg. said porous electrode 2, a cation exchange membrane and gaskets are laminated as mentioned above, whereby these can be laminated easily and well adhered. A tortuous flow type is also used other than the sheet flow type shown in the figure and the materials are Ti, corrosion resistant high polymer compds., etc.
