PURPOSE: To represent a stereoscopic display image by fringing the display image only in a specific direction.

CONSTITUTION: When a control signal for fringing the image longitudinally in an upward and a downward direction independently is supplied by a switching transistor from a longitudinal fringing control circuit 31 to a character ROM 11, the character ROM 11 is controlled to perform the longitudinal fringing in the upward and downward directions independently. Then a lateral fringing separation circuit 22 supplies a control signal for fringing the image laterally in a right and a left direction independently to a lateral fringing control circuit 21. Consequently, the stereoscopic display image can be represented on the screen of a cathode-ray tube, etc.
