PURPOSE: To improve the yield of the titled compound in the catalytic hydrogenative ring-opening reaction of dibenzofuran, safely and economically, by using a catalyst comprising Pt or Pd and an alkali or alkaline earth metal sulfate supported on γ-alumina, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The titled compound is prepared by the hydrogenative ring-opening reaction of benzofuran or its derivative at 200W500°C, preferably 300W380°C using a catalyst comprising platinum or palladium and an alkali metal sulfate or alkaline earth metal sulfate supported on γ-alumina or a silica-alumina having high alumina content. The amount of the platinum or palladium supported on the carrier is 0.1W3wt%, preferably 0.2W2wt% in terms of metallic atom, and that of the alkali metal sulfate or alkaline earth metal sulfate is preferably about 2W5wt% in terms of metallic atom based on the carrier.
