PURPOSE: To suppress a rise in temperature of a head by cutting off sense current supplied to a magneto-resistance effect type reproucing head when a magnetic tape stops running.
CONSTITUTION: A feed controlling circuit 4 is provided in common in sense current sources 3aW3c. The circuit 4 is provided to control supply of sense current to head elements 2aW2c responding to the running action of a magnetic tape 1. It on/off controls sense current sources 3aW3c to supply sense current to each of head elements when the tape is running and not to supply sense current when the tape stops running inputting logical signals S of 1, 0 for commanding tape running and tape running stop to a magnetic tape driving mechanism. Accordingly, the rise in temperature of the magneto-resistance effect type reproducing had at the time of running stop of the magnetic tape 1 can be suppressed and consequently, the temperature can be maintained within allowable limit by this constitution.
