Abstract:
PURPOSE:To compact overall construction of a continuously variable transmission to be used in a car by connecting a fluid coupling in series to the speed changer proper in the power transmission route of the engine, and by providing possibility of transmission from stator or turbine of the fluid coupling to an input pulley through a Forward clutch or Backward clutch. CONSTITUTION:In a speed changing machine composed of a pair of input pulleys 2a, 2b, a pair of output pulleys 4a, 4b and a belt 6 set over these pulleys, a fluid coupling 12 consisting of a stator 20, turbine 18 and pump 16 in connection with engine output shaft is installed coaxially on the input shaft 8 on which the abovementioned input pulley 2b is mounted fast. The center shaft 22 on which said stator 20 is mounted fast is connected with the input pulley 2b through a Backward clutch 34, and a hollow shaft 24 which is fitted on said center shaft 22 and on which the turbine 18 is fixed is made connectible to the input pulley 2b through a Forward clutch 32. It shall also be connectible to the pump impeller 16 through a direct coupling clutch 28. Brake 30 is installed outside the Forward clutch 32.
