Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a high-density recording medium of a high angularity ratio by stacking needle-shaped particles of a magnetic powder to orientate the longer axis of this magnetic powder in the direction vertical to the surface of a magnetic film and setting the film thickness within a specific rate range to an average length of the magnetic powder.

CONSTITUTION: A coated film 12 where needle-shaped particles of the magnetic powder are dispersed in a binder is provided on a disc-shaped base material 11, and the base material 11 is attched to a set base 10 and is stored in a nonmetallic vessel 13, and "NESA" glasses 14 and 14' are provided on both sides of the vessel 13 so that "NESA" faces 15 and 15' are directed toward the surface of the base material 11, and the vessel 13 is attached to a metallic supporting base 16. A magnetic field vertical to the surface of the coated film is generated from magnetic poles 18 and 18' on both sides through both "NESA" glasses by electromagnets 19 and 19'. While orientating the magnetic powder vertically in this manner, a current is applied to "NESA" electrodes 20 and 20' by an AC power source 23 to harden it by heating. Then, the longer axis of needle-shaped particles of the magnetic powder 3 is made vertical to the film surface of the base material 1, and the magnetic powder is not formed to a single layer but layers of the magnetic powder are piled up in the vertical direction, and the thickness of a magnetic layer 2 is set to rate 1.1W2.0 of the average longer axis of the magnetic powder. Thus, a high-density recording disck which has ≥0.6 angularity ratio and is superior in capacity is obtained.
