PURPOSE: To provide a safe preventive for dental caries, capable of suppressing the formation of the tartar on a tooth and preventing the formation of dental caries, by combining a specific synergist with the antiserum or milk obtained by immunizing a mammalian animal with the cell component of mutans bacteria.
CONSTITUTION: A mammalian animal is immunized with one or more substances selected from the cell of Streptococcus mutans, the cell wall fraction of said microorganism, and fibrous structure fraction, etc. The objective preventive for dental caries is obtained by combining the antiserum and/or milk obtained from the immunized animal with one or more synergists selected from a fluorine compound, chlorhexidine compound, bacteriolytic enzyme and bacteriocin. The synergist acts synergistically with the above antiserum to inhibit the fixing of the mutans bacteria in the oral cavity, effectively suppress the formation of the tartar on tooth, and prevent the dental caries. It has high safety in use.
