Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a material for an electrode for electric spark machining having a high rate of electric spark machining by adding a specified amount of TiN to Cu, a Cu alloy or a carbonaceous material as a material for an electrode for electric spark machining.

CONSTITUTION: Powder of Cu, graphite or a Cu alloy such as a Cu-W alloy or brass as a material for electrode for electric spark machining is mixed with ≤20wt% TiN powder in an N2 atmosphere. The mixture is subjected to cold compression molding and sintering at 700°C to manufacture an electrode for electric spark machining. This electrode has a high rate of electric spark machining.
