PURPOSE: To stop a vehicle at a fixed position by a method wherein the vehicle is reversed by a distance relevant to the number of pulses counted by a pulse counting means when the vehicle stops at a position ahead of a second traveling position.

CONSTITUTION: A control section 62 begins to count the number of pulses provided from a pulse encoder 34 from a time point when a photosensor PS detects a fixed position striker ST2. Thus counted number of pulse is then checked against a reference number of pulse D2. If the former is higher, a control section 62 informs an abnormal operation. The control section 62 then compares the reference number of pulse D2 with the counted number of pulse thus deciding whether the stop position is ahead of a fixed position. If the reference number of pulse D2 is higher and the stop position is ahead of the fixed position, a driving circuit 60 is controlled to reverse a motor 20 so as to reverse a vehicle 3 which is subsequently stopped when the difference between the counted number of pulses and the number of pulsed corresponding to the reversed distance matches with the reference number of pulse D2.
